In this session, we’ll explore how integrating sustainability and climate change into K–12 education by incorporating problem-based learning (PBL) and design thinking, we can actively engage students in real-world environmental challenges, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. This approach not only deepens their understanding of climate change, but also equips them with the skills to develop innovative solutions and become empowered change-makers in their communities. Best practices and exemplar (integrated across content areas) sustainability PBLs will be shared. 

We explored the resource depletion of data centers and we also looked into the accumulation of electronic waste both in data centers because of frequent hardware upgrades.Our goal with this Greenlight project is to spread awareness about these modern, pertinent sustainability issues. We'd love to share the solutions that we've explored as well!

The Rhinebeck Civics class offers students the opportunity to pursue community based projects in partnership with local experts and municipalities. Current and former Civics students will present their sustainably themed projects along with discussion on the impact of those projects. Topics may include pollinator gardens, hydroponic food production and repurposing of recycled materials.

Food waste is a huge issue facing the world right now. Our session will cover ways to reduce one's ecological footprint by making cooking more sustainable. We will not only explain the concepts, but also walk participants through a hands-on cooking class!

 In this session, we'll explore how Streamable Learning can transform sustainability education by connecting students directly with subject matter experts from leading organizations around the world. Join the NY Sun Works team for an informational presentation introducing participants to the science of hydroponics and its importance in the future of sustainable agriculture. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and collaborate with peers to brainstorm about how technology like this could be integrated into science classrooms for hands-on, student-centered learning. Participants will then have the opportunity to learn about a design challenge to create their very own passive hydroponic systems. Our team will demonstrate how to create your own DIY hydroponic system at home, which participants can re-create on their own time or with students in the future.

Educators around the world are educating about unsustainability as a way to engage students and motivate them to care and to act. Instead, students are becoming depressed, anxious, overwhelmed and detached. It doesn't have to be that way! Educate for Sustainability. It's the difference that will make the difference.

The Pawling HS Life Skills class is enrolled in Landscape and Plant Science. They are creating their own hydroponics system from repurposed plastics and materials.
